Dry Ice

Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide can exist in three states: gas, liquid, and solid, depending on pressure and temperature. Dry ice is a solid mass of compressed and pressurized liquid CO2 gas at -79°C obtained under 15 bar pressure. Dry ice is used in various industries such as beverages, food, fisheries, ice cream production, greenhouse environments, pharmaceuticals, and refrigeration and freezing applications.

It is produced in four main forms:

1. Dry Ice Blocks: Used for industrial purposes, transportation, and special smoke machines. This is the most commonly used type of dry ice.

2. Dry Ice Slices: Specially produced for the aviation and pharmaceutical industries.

3. Food-Grade Pellets: These types of dry ice are produced for use in the beverage and food industry and can be used directly in food processing.

4. Dry Ice Blasting: Used for cleaning industrial machinery and production lines with the help of dry ice blasting machines.

General characteristics of dry ice include:

• It is colorless, odorless, and does not contain moisture (water).
• The original production size is in the form of cubes with dimensions of 25 cm x 25 cm. Upon request, it can be produced in molds weighing 1 kg to 2.5 kg.
• It can be shaped into desired sizes using special chrome ice cutting machines.
• Dry ice is transported and stored in dry ice containers or styrofoam.
• It can last for two days without evaporating at room temperature and up to three days in a special dry ice container or dry ice styrofoam.
• Due to its suffocating properties, it eliminates bacteria, insects, and pests in the surrounding environment.
• It provides a hygienic environment. Since it is 1.5 times heavier than air, excessive inhalation in enclosed spaces is not recommended.
• It should always be handled with gloves or special transport clamps.
• Contact with the skin, eyes, or ingestion can be harmful to human health.
