Medical carbon dioxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic gas that can easily liquefy. It is used as an insufflation gas and a cooling gas.
It can be used as a blowing gas in minimal invasive surgeries (such as laparoscopy, endoscopy, and arthroscopy) to enlarge and stabilize body cavities for better visibility of the surgical area.
Additionally, in its liquid phase, it can be used for cryotherapy or local analgesia through external application on the skin, providing temperatures as low as -76°C.
